Dr. Young graduated from the Doctorate of Optometry program at the School of Optometry, University of Waterloo in 1978. He started his career in Arnprior where he practiced for 2 years. While working there, he established the Barrhaven Optometric Centre in 1979 with a mission to grow the practice with the community by providing the best possible primary eye care. As a strong advocate for optometry he has served the optometric community as president of the Ottawa Society of Optometrists; as a board and executive member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists; and, as a chairman of the Occupational Vision Plan in Ontario. He received further training in therapeutic pharmaceutical agents from the School of Optometry, University of Waterloo in 2001. He has a keen interest in contact lens practice, serving as a consultant on advisory panels and participating in clinical trials for various contact lens and solution companies.
He enjoys living in the community of Barrhaven with his wife Jackie. Together they watched their sons Danny and Daryl grow up in Barrhaven. He is active in sports including hockey, skiing, snowboarding and golf.
Dr. Young takes great pride in being part of the Barrhaven community.
