Dr. McIntosh joined the Barrhaven Optometric Centre in August 2006 and became a partner in 2008. He is originally from Florenceville, New Brunswick. Dr. McIntosh began his studies at UNB in Fredericton where he was enrolled in the Bachelor of Science degree. After completing only 3 years of his science degree he was accepted into the University of Waterloo to begin his doctor of optometry degree. During his studies he had a 4-month clinical rotation in an ophthalmology clinic in Baltimore, Maryland where he was able to monitor and treat various eye diseases. He graduated from the Optometry program on the Dean’s Honors List in 2002. Dr. McIntosh began his career in his home province of New Brunswick and served a year on council with the New Brunswick Association of Optometrists. Before joining the Barrhaven Optometric Centre, he practiced in Halifax, Nova Scotia for 2 years.
In his spare time Dr. McIntosh enjoys a variety of hobbies. During the winter months he enjoys downhill skiing. He is also a competitive bagpiper having won numerous awards in solo bag piping. While in Halifax, the pipe band with which he competed, won 13th overall in the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland in 2005. During the competition season in 2008 he won the Ottawa Open solo piping award as well as the Piobaireachd Society Gold medal (Canada) in August. Dr McIntosh currently competes on the solo piping circuit throughout eastern Ontario and the Maritimes.
