Services

Below is an overview of our services. If at any time you have any questions, please consult our FAQ section, or contact us.

Eye Exams
Our doctors of optometry will perform comprehensive assessments for cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration and other eye diseases. The doctors will care for all your visual needs by providing the most accurate vision correction that may include spectacles, contact lenses, low vision aids and visual training. The doctors on staff provide both pre and post-operative assessments for laser vision correction. During the regular eye exam they will also be able to obtain an excellent idea of your overall health. If the assessment indicates signs or symptoms of conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure, they will make the appropriate referral and co-manage your care with your other health care providers.

Our doctors and staff provide personalized attention for every patient utilizing state-of-the art testing equipment, procedures and products.

The testing equipment includes:

  • Digital Retinal Imaging Camera
Digital Imaging can assist in the early detection of ocular problems including central retinal diseases, central detachments, holes, thinning, optic nerve disease, pre-cancerous lesions, macular degeneration, hypertensive retinopathy and diabetic retinopathy.

This type of testing also allows us to store these images to compare with the results of future tests so that a complete ocular health history can be generated. This will allow us to see minute changes that we may not have been able to identify without these tests.

We strongly recommend that ALL of our patients receive this test. It is especially important for those patients who have a personal or family history of high blood pressure, diabetes, retinal problems, headaches, floaters, flashing light streaks, a strong prescription for glasses, diminishing vision, macular degeneration, cataracts or are taking certain medications.

  • Pachymetry
The pachymeter is an instrument that measures the thickness of the cornea. It is useful in monitoring the progression of certain disorders that cause the cornea to become thickened (or filled with water), resulting in a loss of vision. Corneal thickness is also a risk factor for glaucoma and therefore this test may be performed by your optometrist. It can also be used to determine whether the cornea is strong enough for procedures such as laser refractive surgery.

  • Visual Fields
During a routine eye exam, some eye doctors may want to determine through visual field testing the full horizontal and vertical range of what you are able to see peripherally. This is commonly referred to as "side vision."

Visual field tests assess the potential presence of blind spots (scotomas), which could indicate eye diseases. A blind spot in the field of vision can be linked to a variety of specific eye diseases, depending on the size and shape of the scotoma.

Many eye and brain disorders can cause visual field abnormalities. For example optic nerve damage caused by glaucoma creates a very specific visual field defect. Other vision problems associated with blind spots developing within the visual field include optic nerve damage (optic neuropathy) from disease or toxic exposure or damage to the light-sensitive inner lining of the eye (retina).

How is the visual field test done?
Various forms of automated perimetry tests measure your responses to the presence of objects in different areas of your field of view. While your head is held still, usually with a chin rest inside a large bowl-like instrument, you stare (fixate) on a source of light straight ahead. A series of random lights of different intensities are flashed in your peripheral field of vision. You then press a button or use other means to indicate your response when you perceive the computer-generated light suddenly appearing in your field of view. If you are unable to see objects in an appropriate portion of your field of view, then you may have a blind spot indicating vision loss.
